Town Council

As a small town of 4923 residents, the Town of New Castle is genuinely able to function as a government of, by and for its people.

While the elected Town Council and appointed Commissions perform a wide range of statutory duties, and the Town Staff carries out multiple management functions, the Town functions effectively because of its citizens.

The Town Council has committed itself to a policy of Civic Engagement and Social Capital. Simply put, Civic Engagement means that the Council conducts its business in partnership with the community. The Council receives input from community members and responds to that input within their power to act.

Social Capital means that our community provides opportunity for people to act together to pursue shared objectives. The Town’s many volunteer organizations, churches and community events let all citizens participate in serving the community.

The Town Council consists of the mayor and six Council Members, each serving 4-year terms. The Council meets in regular session the first and third Tuesdays of each month, starting at 7:00 pm, at New Castle Town Hall, located at 450 West Main Street. The Town Council also sits as the following authority or boards which are conducted at the time of regular council meetings: Local Liquor Authority, Water and Sewer Enterprise, Board of Zoning Adjustment and Board of Appeals and Examiners. 

Meeting agendas are posted at Town Hall, New Castle Post Office, the public notice board at Kay Williams Park and on the Town website. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
